How can a form move away from reality—and instead discover its own meaning?
This exhibition traces the development of formalism and abstraction in Indonesian painting and sculpture through more than 80 works spanning from the 1950s to 2025. It brings together an intergenerational dialogue featuring artists such as A.D. Pirous, G. Sidharta, Umi Dachlan, Fadjar Sidik, Amrizal Salayan, and younger voices including Galih Adika Paripurna and Mujahidin Nurrachman. Curated by Asikin Hasan, the exhibition draws from the Artsociates collection.
The show highlights how artists’ forms, imagery, and personal experiences break through the limits of representation—positioning abstraction as a continually evolving language that flows across places, eras, and educational backgrounds.
